FAACT’s Teen Retreat Is Going Virtual!
July 23-25, 2021!
FAACT’s Seventh Annual Teen Retreat is all about tweens and teens living with food allergies. Siblings and parents are included too!
This virtual weekend will offer all the informative programs, fun activities, and social hours you’ve enjoyed at past retreats. Teens will learn about managing their food allergies and, perhaps more importantly, spend time with other teens who have food allergies (and siblings who do not). Our Teen Retreat is a safe place to discuss their concerns with a group who not only understands but can share their own experiences, advice, and solutions.
FAACT’s Medical Advisory Board urged us to hold the event virtually this year given the uncertainty of Covid-19, including vaccine availability for tweens and teens. Having the retreat in July means that teens will be well-prepared for the coming school year! Plus our college-age speakers and counselors will not have to worry about conflicts with their classes.
Teen sessions are divided by grade/age group to ensure discussions are relevant and age-appropriate:
- Teens will have a Q&A session with FAACT Medical Advisory Board Chair Dr. Shahzad Mustafa.
- Chat with food allergy educator Kyle Dine about ways to halt bullying.
- Learn self-care and coping skills from FAACT Director of Behavioral Health Emery Brown.
- Other topics for teens include getting ready for high school/college and dating with food allergies.
- Socials, virtual games, and more!
Parent sessions include:
- The latest in food allergy research and quality of life.
- Preparing your child for high school or college.
- Civil rights for students with food allergies.
- Traveling with food allergies, and helping your child become their own best advocate.
- Socials and more!
And we’re excited about our action-packed closing session with nationally recognized keynote speaker Curtis Zimmerman, who will show us all how to “Live the Dream!” (We heard there could be juggling or fire breathing involved.)

FAACT's Teen Retreat was an incredible experience not only for my 16-year-old daughter but me as well. It was wonderful for her to learn from those older than her who had navigated their way into college and young adult life with such joy! I wasn't sure what to expect, but like Camp TAG, it was a beautiful and empowering experience.
— Charity, Virginia
FAACT's Teen Retreat gave me a sense of security and normalcy in my experiences with food allergies, but also the best community of lifelong friends from across the country! I wouldn't trade those weekends for the world!
— Emma, Massachusetts (18)
