Heather Yee

Director, Education

Heather Yee brings three decades of experience to FAACT. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She began her post-collegiate career at a local nonprofit supporting independent living and community connections for adults with developmental disabilities. Heather has taught individuals from age three to adults in a variety of spaces and roles, including as a food allergy consultant. She recently served eight years on her local school board, where she had an impact around food allergies and how students could be better supported in the classroom.

Heather blends professional expertise with a deeply personal mission. She entered the food allergy world shortly after her son was born in 2007. From birth, he was often covered in eczema and did not sleep well. Finally, at 10 months old, her son was diagnosed with allergies to milk, egg, wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts. At 20 months old, he had his first anaphylactic reaction, which sent him to the hospital for the night. Facing the complexities of navigating school and social environments with food allergies, Heather became a dedicated advocate. She ran the FAAN (Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network) Walk for Food Allergies in Cincinnati for four years. Through FAAN, she met Eleanor Garrow-Holding and stayed connected once Eleanor started FAACT. Camp TAG has been a huge part of Heather’s family’s life. Heather was also co-leader of a local food allergy support group that served Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

As FAACT’s Director of Education, Heather helps develop food-allergy education resources for schools, facilitates support groups, and works on other education initiatives. She also represents FAACT at medical conferences and other events. Heather leverages her unique background as an educator, parent, and former school board member to empower and educate school staff, community members, and individuals on how to foster inclusive environments where students with food allergies can thrive.
